The ABBA is introducing a new “Bloodline Registration” program, continuing as the leader in introducing important new bully breed programs and services.
What is the ABBA Bloodline Registration Program?
ABBA members will also be able to register/certify that their dog belongs to a specific bloodline. The first bloodlines the ABBA is registering are Remyline, Royal Bloodline Generation (RBG) and World Class K-9. The requirements to register with each bloodline will be determined by the bloodline owners and will be available on the ABBA website.
You will receive a beautiful certificate (authorized by the bloodline) verifying your dog belongs to this select bloodline of dogs in addition to your official sealed ABBA registration certificate. And your dogs bloodline information, including additional statistics required by the bloodline owners, will be collected and maintained by the ABBA for use by the bloodline owner to establish and regulate their bloodlines.
You can register a bloodline that you are starting if it based solely on pedigree (only the offspring of certain dogs are eligible). Or you can register a bloodline that you are starting based on a look you want to recreate that your foundation dogs possess. The ABBA is currently accepting new bloodlines call or email for details abbadogs@cox.net or 800 694-2127.
What benefits does Bloodline Registration offer?
For a breeder who is looking to create their own bloodline, the ABBA program offers essential registration and data management services that are too costly and complicated for most breeders to operate on their own. The ABBA will utilize our database expertise to collect, organize and maintain accurate and complete records regarding your bloodline.
How do I establish a bloodline?
The first step in the process is a complete description of the vision, the trademark look that all dogs in the bloodline will display or the pedigrees that this bloodline represents. In other words, what is it that your bloodline reliably reproduces? If you can’t describe it, you don’t have a bloodline.
How long does it take to found a bloodline?
When creating a bloodline based on look or style, it’s important to show that you can reliably reproduce dog with these specific traits. Doing that will probably take at least 3 generations, maybe more depending on how successful or unsuccessful you are at isolating the phenotype and genotype of traits your bloodline requires.
Once you finalize your vision, the most important step isaccurately and completely keeping records on your work. Here is where the ABBA comes in.
First, the foundation dogs are registered and any accepted pedigrees or dogs are listed. Then we begin collecting and organizing pedigrees, descriptions, photos, health records and breeding records for your bloodline in addition to offering certification. As additional information come in, the ABBA will add it to your database and the information will develop a bigger and more complete picture of your bloodline.
Reports can be provided to the bloodline owners showing a complete list of all the dogs and their owners and specialized reports can show specific information that helps refine or perfect a bloodline such as how many dogs are a certain height, weight or color and what dogs are producing them.
From that information a breeder can begin to predict how many pups per litter will have strong bloodline traits, which specific dogs or combinations of dogs tend to produce traits best and other valuable info. You just can’t get quality information of this nature informally through word of mouth or message board postings.
We can even do things like help you send out mailings to members of your bloodline. This can be especially helpful for follow up. If once pups leaves your yard, you never see them again and you don’t see what they look like as adults, how will you know if you are reliably reproducing your look?
And more importantly, this helps our breed. The more records, the data, the more detail we can collect on our dogs, the more power and control we gain over our future.
If you were considering starting your own bloodline, let the ABBA partner with you to make your dream come true.
One more fantastic new program the ABBA and Remyline will offer is dual registration.
For a limited time, when you register with RLC (Remyline Certified) or RKC (Remyline Kennel Club) you can register with the ABBA for only $10 (50% off). Simply send a copy of your RLC or RKC registration with your ABBA registration form and a copy of your 3 generation pedigree.
The same goes for the RLC and RKC, register with the ABBA and get a RKC or RLC registration for half price (contact Remyline for details). Simply send a copy of your ABBA registration or Easy Entry card with your RLC or RKC application to receive the discount.
It is this dual registration that will enable Remyline, in cooperation with the ABBA, to begin to offer true bloodline registration.
DNA profiling, health testing and bloodline registration
Bloodline registration of American Bullies or American Pit Bull Terriers especially should also include DNA profiling because there is no higher standard of ethics and integrity than completely profiled breeding stock. When registering a bloodline, in essence you are guaranteeing that these animals contain specifically and only that specific bloodline and you should be able to back it up with proof.
The ABBA provides the certificate but DNA profiling offers real proof. It offers buyers an iron clad guarantee that they are actually purchasing the bloodline they are paying for. And when it comes to something as important as the reputation of your bloodline, it simply doesn’t make sense not to protect your investment.
The ABBA promotes responsible breeding and responsible ownership. To create a strong, healthy and respected bloodline, breeders should health screen. American Bullies or American Pit Bull Terriers bloodline owners are strongly encouraged to health test their foundation breeding stock for hip dysplasia and cardiac issues as well as any other areas of concern so you can eliminate these problems in your line right away. Other breeds should test for the issues most common to their breeds.
When going in for vet check, ask your vet to check for normal heart sounds. Serious heart issues can be detected in this way. Should he detect an abnormality, further testing may be recommended to determine seriousness. Not all heart issues are genetic.
Check your dog’s hearing, lungs and do a blood test for liver function and diabetes. Adult breeding dogs should get tested for hip dysplasia.
The ABBA will begin offering testing clinics and working to find ways of offering these services at reduced costs for our members.
